* brains n Bodies

Posted on March 3rd, 2010 by admin. Filed under Art, Design, felt, me.

I’m going to The Bodies exhibit today, somewhat reluctantly, as part of my research for my felted body part project. Henry said he’d pick up my ticket if I braved the morbid scene. I, at least, found a friend to go with.
Yesterday, I picked out colors and started color mixing for my Brain, the next installment in felted organs. Check out my flickr to see what happens when you lay out roving on the floor in front of a cat.

* Terrarium

After all this rain its hard not to think about mushrooms creeping up in random places. For instance, I wonder how many and what kind of mushrooms are currently fungifying the underpass across from my apartment near I-5? I probably don’t want to know. Anyway, in addition to rugs the world of felted mushrooms and terrariums in particular has been opening up to me. For this I did a little wet felting, which wasn’t necessary. And I used a vase I had laying around. Here’s my little contribution:

* felt ball rug

Posted on February 9th, 2010 by admin. Filed under Art, Design, Photography, felt.

This is another in-progress project. I’ve seen some pretty great looking rugs made out of felt balls over the course of my work in wool. This rug, in particular, has caught my eye many times. And this crafty site gave me the idea to use small bits of leftover wool.
The process is easy (albeit time-consuming)take old stockings (or purchase cheap-y nylons from the drugstore) gather and squish small handfuls of roving. Then bundle it all the way into the toe of the stocking. Tie it off and you have your first stone. Repeat the process to fill up the tights as tight as you can (I like to do this and that is why I am going to Hot Yoga :)) Toss your tights in the wash and this time, for the first time hopefully, you dry your tights in the dryer. And that is where I am:

When I got these pairs back from the laundry I thought they looked more like a sea-creature and for a minute thought about other directions I could take this stage. Full focus ahead, though, we’re creating a rug now.

I’ll need a few more pairs of tights before this projects reaches more than the size of a place mat. Before it gets too big I need to track down the best type of nylon cord for durability. But I am anticipating a most divine feeling mat to step on at the end of this.

* Model

Posted on December 4th, 2009 by admin. Filed under Design, Photography, me.

A few weeks ago I asked a friend to pose in some of the dresses I am selling on my Etsy store All are vintage finds I have accumulated and made slight repairs to. The whole experience was new to all who participated. Henry signed on to photograph so I took care of the details: where the model would stand, poses, dresses and accessories. It was such fun. I did feel bad I wasn’t selling parkas and warm wooly mittens because Jessica was SO cold.
I did bring her things like big furry boots to keep her tootsies warm while waiting for various adjustments.

And then we took them off…

* Sunday Market 10.25.09

Posted on October 27th, 2009 by admin. Filed under Design, Photography, me.

This was a super fun week at the FSM. Despite it being a cold and somewhat dreary day people were out in full force…. until it started to really rain. People were jovial and some of my lovely customers were open to having their pictures taken for this very here post. My ears were a hit, I’m so glad I got to contribute to a handful of people’s costumes this year. Warms my heart, no really.
So here are their lovely faces with some very fuzzy ears (and one set of eyes)

* Ears

Posted on October 15th, 2009 by admin. Filed under Design, me.

Minimal costumes are great! I made an assortment of felt animal ears for Halloween. They are for sale, of course. If you’re in the Seattle area, I’ll be in Fremont on Sunday!

Ears!

The best part of my day was wearing the Llama ears and terrifying my cat. Ben, my cat, is afraid of a lot but it usually takes something really funny (to me) to really freak him out and get the fur-raising hissing reaction from him. Furry boots and now furry ears on humans top the list.

* Fort

Over at Booooooom.com there is an awesome contest. It goes along with the soon-to-be-released and highly anticipated Where The Wild Things Are movie. While perusing the many entries I was heavily inspired to create my own. And seeing that the deadline was today there was even more incentive. So, last night, after a fun-filled weekend and gladly having a film crew invade our apartment all day yesterday I came home and pushed through the fatigue to make my fort.
Here are the pictures my entry!

* New Home

Posted on September 23rd, 2009 by admin. Filed under Art, Design, Photography, Uncategorized, collage.

After a couple weeks of moving, a trip to San Francisco, a new niece and a minor thumb injury my boyfriend and I are now unpacking in our new lovely home inside the Old Rainier Brewery. Moving is definitely both tiring and inspiring. I’m back on the work train now, just set up my studio and work table this morning. I will be at the Fremont Sunday Market this weekend.

Also, I’d like to share with you this happening at our new building. We’ll have our doors open and hope you’ll stop in for some snacks and wine!
