Its been quite a summer already. I spent the first part interning for a lovely group of women who put on Urban Craft Uprising here in Seattle. I kept my fingers exercised (blogging) and my legs in good shape (riding my bike around the city handing out promotional materials). And there has been no shortage of fantastic camping and hiking.
Art has taken the back burner while I figure myself out and go with the flow. But I usually take a large side of laziness with my introspection. Hence, my blog silence.
The other day, though, I sat down with a monster of a summer cold and did some needle felting. I’ve been seeing these geometric panel necklaces flying all over the internet. They really feel like something new on the scene to me. I like their retro feel as well. So, I did a little experimenting and found that I liked how they looked in felt in addition to the standard embroidery they come in.

I didn’t plan on it, but I think I will get a chain for at least one of these. If they aren’t the comfiest necklaces to rest upon my decolletage!

the neglect

What happens when you encounter a road block of un-focus and discombobulation?
NOTE: this picture has nothing to do with roadblocks, but I needed something to keep this post pretty.

It happens to every artist, writer, photographer, musician. Some more successfully revive themselves in a timely manner. The first part of this year, despite some great relaxing and fun mini-vacations to the San Juans and San Francisco, was a big dump on the…. whatever. On me. Pushing forward through the muck of personal life got the better of me while I was trying to get myself established in a career doing something different, something that makes me very happy. I’m not going to make excuses, I’m accountable for my lull; I let things interfere. My steady stream of productivity flat-lined. I felt like I was standing in Eagle pose with my eyes on my Drishdi, solid and powerful, and all of a sudden my quads burned hard through my “spiritual gaze” and I just fell out of my posture. So, back to the mat I go, back to the drawing board. Oh, and if you didn’t notice I’ve been doing yoga. Lots and lots of yoga.

Summer is on the horizon and it knows, as well as I do, that the funnest and busiest months are ahead. Planned trips are barreling at me at full speed. I cannot wait, but much preparation is needed if I’m going to maintain my path to any long term goal I have. The studio where I practice yoga gave us a challenge for the next four months; Summer of Transformation: While I am working on what this concept means to me I’m considering balance, energy, motivation and most importantly love. Where do I want to be when this challenge is over? How do I want to transform myself as a person, yogi, artist? Will this challenge ever end?

Aaand now I feel that I’ve entered the cheese-zone. Not at all how this blog is intended. Check back soon for the good stuff.

**Also, I apologize for the new-age-y yogi-talk. I know, I went there.

good friday

Happy Friday! Next week I’ll be in San Francisco enjoying life with my sister and her beautiful family (beautiful dog not shown) I called Margret to ask what I should bring and we came up with this list. Looks like a pretty decent week ahead of me.

I hope to finish up a project before I leave but it seems that I’ve started too much all at once and my focus has been clouded recently. But I am excited to explore San Francisco’s felting options, no doubt I’ll come back a bit refreshed. More soon!

Here is a series of watercolors I did a few months back. I found them when I was doing some spring cleaning yesterday as a way to take my mind off of photo uploading woes. I can be so computer illiterate sometimes. Anyway, here I was really focusing on colors and watercolor pencils which I have used without water up until recently. I quite like them now.

Case of Kombucha

Happy Friday! I couldn’t ask for better weather. This morning my studio was completely drenched in sunlight. Beautiful, and exciting, but almost too bright to sit in. I said almost. I decided to power through the rest of the Kombucha project. I now have a full case of waterless Kombucha tea, which is good for…. er. It was a fun project. I am now craving some Gingerberry.
When I my resource for fantastic photographic abilities home I will get pictures of each one, but for now: The Full Case.

Air Plant

I admire the simplicity in structure and care of Air plants. Pick em up, water them and then shake them off and the rest of the time they are there for you to enjoy. I have nothing close to a green thumb so, it actually surprises me that I don’t have one of these yet. Well, for now. Its going to sit on my bookshelf until a very lucky person purchases it for their delight. Heh.

Weekend Inspired

This is a recreation of one of the many mushrooms I saw this past weekend on top of Mt. Guemes. This one is quite a bit larger than its natural counterpart. Its about 9 inches tall. Needle and wet felted. Inside the glass dish are the beginnings of an air plant terrarium.

simple cybins

I started my week by making some chunky mushrooms yesterday. I’m in the process of getting ready for spring craft shows and markets where I plan to show my felt work. And I like the idea of making my table look like a farm vendor’s table. Mushrooms and fresh produce and terrariums, a felt farm and garden if you will.
So, here we go:

a friday of happy

I’m taking a mini-holiday up to the San Juans for the weekend to bike and hike and eat. It is a very happy Friday indeed. Besides the Skagit Valley and Iceland, I find it hard to be in a more heavenly place than in the San Juans. Pictures most definitely forthcoming. Have a great weekend, next week I’ll be planning for the Fremont Sunday Market!
