Today I share one of my largest felted creations, white Flat-Top mushroom. Its big, soft and sturdy as a rock because I nearly needle-felted it into oblivion. Yesterday, my plans changed for this mushroom when I popped into Souvenir in Ballard and saw the exquisite needle-felted work of Cynthia Toops. See the top three photos on this page. Incredible. More on her later. Suddenly, this giant white mushroom remained a needle-felted project instead of my plans to submerge it in water for wet felting.

Big White, 2010
There is something so incredibly satisfying about touching solidly felted wool. Its wool, its fur from an animal, and yet it feels as tough as a piece of soft wood. And with the help of some star point needles the process goes quickly. More photos at my Flickr.
